From a recording to a useful document
Choose a file from your device, select its language or let StemVocal detect it, and start transcription. You can try three free jobs each day without an account, with recordings up to 30 minutes each processed in your browser. These free jobs are shared with the other StemVocal tools and reset at midnight UTC. For longer recordings or more jobs, choose a file pack or Unlimited. One credit covers each started 30 minutes, up to three hours per file. Unlimited includes recordings up to three hours without spending credits. Files have a 1 GB limit. Free processing uses a smaller Whisper model; cloud processing uses Whisper large-v3-turbo. Neither guarantees a word-perfect transcript.
Video transcription makes spoken content searchable without asking you to watch the whole recording again. Use it for recorded interviews, tutorials, lectures or presentations. Upload an MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, M4V or MPEG file; StemVocal reads the audio track. A video without an audio track cannot produce a spoken transcript. Free transcription reads the audio track locally without decoding the video frames. It supports browser-decodable audio in MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV. AVI and MPEG require cloud transcription. A video codec that cannot play in the preview may still have a supported audio track.
Make subtitles that fit your edit
Read alongside the video, click a word to revisit its moment, and correct the text before exporting. The on-page caption preview follows playback. Choose cloud transcription for suggested speaker labels. Download SRT for most video editors, or VTT for web video players. These are subtitle files you can import into another editor; they are not burned into the original video. Edited turns keep their original start and end times, with caption timing distributed across the correction. Check synchronization before publishing.
For a written version, download TXT, Word, CSV or JSON, or use Print / PDF and your browser’s save option. Your original video is not re-encoded or modified. This tool accepts files from your device, not YouTube links or other download URLs.

Open the subtitle examples to compare SRT’s numbered cues with VTT’s WEBVTT header. Both preserve text and cue times; neither places permanent text into your video’s pixels. To do that, import the subtitles into your video editor and render the video there.

Return to saved work
Open Saved transcripts to pick up an earlier transcript, correct it or download it again. Your saved work stays in this browser, on this site. Reconnect the same original recording to listen while editing; reopening text uses no credit. You can delete each local copy separately. Download important work, since browser storage can be cleared or evicted.
Get a cleaner transcript
A clear recording makes the biggest difference. Keep the microphone near the speaker, reduce background music, and select the spoken language when automatic detection is uncertain. Transcription can miss words or introduce mistakes, especially in noisy or quiet passages. Review names, figures and important quotations against the original before using the text. This is an editing tool, not a certified transcription service.

A numbered cue has a start time, an end time and the words shown during that interval. Import the file into your video editor as a subtitle track. This written example demonstrates the export format; it is not a transcription accuracy sample.

SRT uses a comma before milliseconds; WebVTT uses a dot and begins with WEBVTT. These files contain captions, not the video itself. Review cue timing against your recording.

Is transcription free?
Yes. You get 3 free StemVocal jobs each UTC day, shared across audio transcription, video transcription and music separation. Free transcription runs in your browser, up to 30 minutes per file. It downloads a speech model on first use. Device speed and codec support affect availability. Extra jobs, longer files and speaker detection use paid cloud processing with a file pack or Unlimited.
How many credits does a recording use?
One credit per started 30 minutes: 20 minutes uses one credit, 45 minutes uses two, and 3 hours uses six. You choose the paid action before credits are reserved. Failed jobs return their reserved credits to the original allowance. Unlimited includes these jobs without spending credits.
Can I close the tab?
Keep the tab open for free browser transcription. Closing it stops processing; finished transcripts and edits save on this device. Open Saved transcripts to return to earlier work. For cloud jobs, keep it open until upload finishes, then return on the same device within 24 hours. An interrupted cloud upload can resume its completed parts.
What happens to my files?
Free browser transcription does not upload your recording or text. Cloud transcription uploads your file to private storage, with 24-hour access and deletion normally within another 24 hours. You can delete cloud copies from the editor. Saved transcripts and edits remain in this browser until you delete them, clear site data or the browser evicts them.
